Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 20, 2026
1. Introduction
CleanPaystubs ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have, when you use our website and services at cleanpaystubs.com.
By using cleanpaystubs.com, you consent to the data practices described in this Policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Email Address: Provided by you when you register to use our service. We use it to identify your account, deliver your free first report, track credits, and send transactional and (where you have not opted out) marketing communications.
- Uploaded Documents: When you upload a paystub image or PDF, we process it temporarily to extract information using our OCR and AI services. We do not permanently store your uploaded documents after the report is generated.
- Paystub Data You Enter or Edit: Information you enter manually, or edit after AI extraction, is stored together with your generated report and tied to your email account.
- Payment Information: When you purchase additional report credits, payment is processed entirely by PayPal. We receive only the transaction confirmation — not your full card or payment details.
- Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with our website, including pages visited, features used, referring URLs, device type, browser type, operating system, and approximate location (derived from IP). This data may be associated with your email if you are signed in.
- Cookies and Similar Technologies: See Section 7 for details.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve our service and your user experience
- Process your paystub documents and generate reports
- Track your account credits, purchases, and usage
- Process payments through PayPal
- Send transactional emails (account, credit, and report-related communications)
- Send marketing emails about our products, related products, partner offers, and affiliate offerings — you can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email
- Measure the performance of our advertising campaigns and improve targeting (see Section 7 for the specific advertising technologies we use)
- Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security risks, or technical issues
- Comply with our legal obligations
4. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit and access controls on the systems we operate. Sensitive personal identifiers (such as email addresses) shared with our advertising partners are SHA-256 hashed before transmission. Uploaded paystub documents are processed temporarily and are not retained permanently after a report is generated. No security system is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Data Retention
We retain your email address and account information (including generated report metadata and credit history) for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Uploaded paystub source documents are processed temporarily and are not retained permanently. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by contacting support@cleanpaystubs.com. Some information may be retained in backups for a limited period for disaster-recovery purposes.
6. Third-Party Service Providers
We rely on the following third-party service providers ("processors") to operate our service. Each provider is contractually bound to handle information in line with their own privacy commitments. Their privacy policies govern their handling of any information they receive:
- PayPal — payment processing (credit card and PayPal-account transactions). PayPal Privacy Statement.
- Google (Cloud Vision API) — OCR text extraction from uploaded paystub images and PDFs. Google Privacy Policy.
- OpenAI — AI-assisted structured data extraction and formatting. OpenAI Privacy Policy.
- Supabase — database hosting for account, credit, and report metadata. Supabase Privacy Policy.
- Railway — application hosting and infrastructure. Railway Privacy Policy.
- Google Analytics 4 — website analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand site usage. Google Privacy Policy.
- Meta (Facebook) Pixel and Conversions API — advertising performance measurement and optimization for our Facebook and Instagram advertising. Personal identifiers shared via the Conversions API are SHA-256 hashed before transmission. Meta Privacy Policy.
We do not sell your personal information to data brokers. We may share information with these processors only as needed for them to perform their service on our behalf.
7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use the following types of cookies and similar tracking technologies:
- Essential cookies: required to operate the site (session management, security, account state).
- Analytics cookies: Google Analytics 4 uses cookies to measure aggregate site usage. IP addresses are collected as part of standard GA4 functionality. We have not opted into Google Signals or cross-device tracking via GA4.
- Advertising cookies: the Meta (Facebook) Pixel uses cookies (including
_fbpand_fbc) to measure ad performance and improve ad targeting on Facebook and Instagram. We also use the Conversions API to send hashed event data server-side to Meta for ad-measurement purposes.
You can disable non-essential cookies via your browser settings, opt out of Google Analytics using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, and manage Meta ad preferences in your Facebook Ad Preferences.
8. Marketing Communications
When you register an email address with us, you may receive marketing emails about our products, related services, and third-party offers we believe may be relevant to self-employed earners, freelancers, and gig workers. You can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link included in every marketing email, or by contacting support@cleanpaystubs.com. Opting out of marketing communications will not affect transactional emails (account, credit, and report-related communications).
9. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion: request that we delete your account and associated personal data.
- Portability: request a machine-readable copy of your data.
- Opt-out: opt out of marketing communications at any time.
- Withdraw consent: where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@cleanpaystubs.com with your request. We will respond within 30 days (or sooner where required by law).
10. California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act) provides you with additional rights. You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it; the right to request deletion of your information; the right to correct inaccurate information; the right to limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information; and the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information.
We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration. Our use of the Meta Pixel and Meta Conversions API for advertising measurement may, under California law, be considered "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out of this sharing at any time by emailing support@cleanpaystubs.com with the subject line "Do Not Share My Personal Information."
We do not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
11. Children's Privacy
Our service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@cleanpaystubs.com and we will take reasonable steps to delete that information.
12. International Users and Data Transfers
CleanPaystubs is primarily designed for users in the United States. The service is operated from servers and offices located in the United States and India, and information you provide is processed in these jurisdictions. If you access our service from outside the United States or India, you understand that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries with data-protection laws that may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, services, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will post the updated Policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically.
